How to Mine Pearl (PRL)? Complete Beginner’s Guide

What Is Pearl Coin?

Pearl Coin, also known by its ticker PRL, is the native asset of the Pearl Network, a Layer-1 blockchain designed around a new consensus model called Proof-of-Useful-Work. Unlike traditional Proof-of-Work systems that rely mainly on repeated hash calculations, Pearl is built around matrix multiplication, the same type of GPU-heavy computation used in AI training and inference workloads. According to Pearl Research Labs, the goal is to make mining a by-product of useful AI computation rather than a separate activity that only burns energy for cryptographic hashing.

In simple terms, Pearl tries to connect two fast-growing worlds: crypto mining and AI compute. The network is designed so that GPUs can help secure the blockchain while also performing computations that are relevant to artificial intelligence. This is why Pearl is often described as an AI-native Proof-of-Work blockchain.

Why Pearl Is Different

Most Proof-of-Work blockchains use computational puzzles to secure the network. Bitcoin, for example, uses SHA-256 hashing. Pearl takes a different route. Instead of making miners compete only through hash calculations, Pearl uses MatMul, or matrix multiplication, which is one of the core operations behind modern machine learning models.

This matters because AI models depend heavily on GPU computation. Training, inference, fine-tuning, and many other AI workloads rely on matrix operations. Pearl’s idea is that if these operations can be verified cryptographically, they can also serve as a form of useful mining work. The Pearl whitepaper describes this as a “two-for-one” model: the same GPU activity can support AI workloads and create proof for blockchain consensus.

This makes Pearl different from many older GPU-mined coins. Instead of simply asking, “How much hashpower can a GPU produce?”, Pearl asks, “Can GPU compute used in AI also secure a decentralized monetary network?”

Pearl Tokenomics

The native token of the Pearl Network is PRL. The token is used as the reward asset for miners who contribute valid work to the network.

Pearl’s whitepaper states that the total supply is 2,100,000,000 PRL, and the smallest unit is 10⁻⁸ PRL, called a grain. The network targets a block interval of 194 seconds, or approximately 3 minutes and 14 seconds. Instead of using sudden Bitcoin-style halving events, Pearl uses a smooth, polynomially decaying emission curve designed to reduce sharp reward shocks over time.

The emission model is designed so that roughly half of the total supply is allocated over a four-year period, calculated as approximately 650,226 blocks at Pearl’s expected block time. This means PRL issuance decreases gradually rather than through abrupt halving cliffs.

How Pearl Mining Works

Pearl mining is not the same as traditional GPU mining. In a typical GPU-mined coin, miners run an algorithm that repeatedly searches for valid hashes. With Pearl, miners participate in a system where the work is tied to matrix multiplication, which can be connected to AI inference and training workloads.

The official Pearl GitHub repository describes Pearl as an L1 blockchain where mining is performed as a by-product of arbitrary matrix multiplication. The same repository contains the full node, wallet, SPV light client, ZK proving system, vLLM miner, and supporting tools.

At a high level, Pearl mining involves four main components:

  1. A Pearl wallet address to receive mining rewards.
  2. A Pearl node to connect to the network.
  3. A GPU mining environment, usually based on NVIDIA GPUs and CUDA.
  4. A vLLM-based miner that performs the GPU work and submits valid proofs.

Pearl’s current official software stack requires tools such as Go, Rust, Python, uv, Task runner, and CUDA toolkit for the vLLM miner.

Hardware Requirements

Pearl is heavily GPU-focused. In practice, the project is most closely associated with high-performance NVIDIA GPUs because AI matrix multiplication workloads are optimized for modern GPU architectures.

The official repository lists CUDA as a requirement for the vLLM miner, while third-party mining dashboards currently show Pearl support for NVIDIA hardware and no listed support for AMD, Intel, or CPU mining in their miner option wizard.

For professional or data-center-style setups, H100 and H200 GPUs are commonly discussed because they are designed for high-performance AI workloads. OpenJarvis documentation describes its Pearl mining path as primarily targeting NVIDIA H100/H200 hosts running vLLM with Pearl’s Docker miner.

That said, Pearl mining information is changing quickly. Some community miners have experimented with consumer GPUs, but official and production-oriented setups are still more focused on data-center NVIDIA hardware. Tom’s Hardware reported that community miners had adapted Pearl mining for consumer cards, while also noting that the official pool was optimized for H100 and H200 cards.

Pearl and AI Inference

One of the strongest narratives behind Pearl is its connection to real AI inference. Pearl is not only trying to create another mineable coin; it is trying to create a system where AI workloads can generate crypto emissions while performing useful computation.

A major example is the partnership between Together AI and Pearl Research Labs. On May 15, 2026, Together AI announced a Pearl-powered inference endpoint for Gemma-4–31B-it-pearl, an instruction-tuned model. The endpoint was introduced with more than 25% discounted pricing, offset by the future value of PRL emissions.

This partnership is important because it shows Pearl’s intended use case in practice: GPU cycles used for AI inference can also participate in mining, potentially reducing the effective cost of AI compute.

Privacy and Verification

For Pearl’s model to work, the network needs to verify that useful computation happened without exposing sensitive AI data. This is where zero-knowledge proofs come in.

Pearl’s whitepaper explains that zkSNARKs can allow a prover to show that a computation was performed correctly without revealing the private inputs behind that computation. This is especially important for AI workloads, where matrices may contain proprietary model data or confidential information. Pearl’s design uses hash-based zkSNARKs and Plonky2-style proof systems to support efficient verification, privacy, and post-quantum-oriented assumptions.

Pearl also changes the traditional block header structure. Instead of using Bitcoin’s nonce-based proof-of-work model, Pearl uses a variable-length block certificate that represents the proof of validity for the block.

Address System and Security Design

Pearl standardizes around Taproot-style addresses and removes support for older legacy address formats. According to the whitepaper, this design choice is intended to reduce fragmentation, simplify implementation, and strengthen long-term security. Pearl also introduces post-quantum readiness features, including support for XMSS-based signatures through a dedicated opcode.

This technical design makes Pearl more than just a mining coin. It is also an experiment in combining Bitcoin-like architecture, AI-native proof generation, zero-knowledge verification, and future-facing cryptographic assumptions.

Current Market Status

As of June 2, 2026, CoinGecko lists Pearl under the ticker PRL and shows PRL trading on centralized exchanges, with SafeTrade listed as the most active PRL/USDT market in its market table. CoinGecko also shows a fully diluted valuation based on a maximum supply assumption of 2.1 billion PRL, while noting that circulating supply data is not reported there.

Because Pearl is a new asset, market conditions can change very quickly. Price, trading volume, liquidity, mining difficulty, pool performance, and GPU profitability should all be checked before starting a mining operation.

Profitability and Risks

Pearl mining attracted attention because it combines two popular sectors: AI infrastructure and GPU mining. However, profitability is not guaranteed.

Tom’s Hardware reported on May 31, 2026, that Pearl had triggered a GPU mining rush after its late-April 2026 mainnet launch and Together AI partnership, but that mining returns were already falling as more miners entered the network. The same report noted that estimated RTX 5090 daily revenue had dropped by about 49% from a previous figure as network difficulty increased.

This is a key point for beginners: early mining returns can look attractive, but they often decline when more miners join. Before mining Pearl, consider:

  • Cooling and infrastructure cost
  • Pool fees
  • PRL price volatility
  • Exchange liquidity
  • Network difficulty growth

Is Pearl Worth Mining?

Pearl may be attractive for miners who already have access to powerful NVIDIA GPUs, especially operators familiar with AI infrastructure, vLLM, Linux servers, and CUDA environments. It may also be interesting for AI compute providers looking for ways to create an additional revenue stream from GPU workloads.

However, Pearl is not necessarily beginner-friendly in the same way as older GPU coins. Its official stack is more technical, its mining model is connected to AI inference, and its best-supported hardware appears to be closer to data-center GPUs than standard gaming rigs.

For hobby miners, the key question is not only “Can I mine PRL?” but also “Can I mine PRL profitably after hardware, electricity, rental, and liquidity risks?”
